Mike Coleman

Mike Coleman  66, of Beech Grove, Kentucky died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home.  Michael Edwin Coleman was born January 23, 1950 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Edwin Earl and Jenna V. Seller Coleman and was married to the former Karen Lee Forest on March 10, 1995.  Mike retired after 35 years of service at Alcan Aluminum, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic and served as local union president for 18 years.  He was involved in numerous labor management activities on a local, state, and national level which included being the labor co-chair for the Kentucky State Labor Management Committee, the labor co-chair for the National Labor Management Association, and a board member for the Governor’s Labor Management Advisory Council.

          Mike received his Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Studies from The National Labor College of the George Meany Center for Labor Studies in Silver Springs, Maryland.  He was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church, served on the Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department, was a past Magistrate for the McLean County Fiscal Court, and a member of the Sunset Cruisers Car Club.  Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, flying, woodworking, restoring classic cars, and traveling.  When asked what his most valued possession was, he said the love and respect of his family which he most definitely had.

          Survivors include his wife, Karen Coleman; two sons and their wives, Troy and Elise Coleman of Bowling Green and Eric and Christy Coleman of Calhoun; a step son, Austin Mayberry of Louisville; a step daughter and her husband, Laura and Brent Hazelwood of Richmond, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Piper Coleman, Grace Coleman, Noah Coleman, Luke Coleman, Riley Mayberry, Allie Hazelwood, and Ashton Hazelwood; and two brothers and their wives, Ronnie and Brenda Coleman of Calhoun and Terry and Brenda Coleman of Beech Grove.

          Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Jim Midkiff officiating.  Friends may visit with Mike’s family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and from 10:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.

          The Mike Coleman family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Lighthouse Recovery, 731 Hall Street, Owensboro, Kentucky  42303; or Beech Grove Christian Church, P.O. Box 177, Beech Grove, Kentucky  42322; or honor his memory by touching someone’s life with a random act of kindness.  Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
