What fond memories of school days teaching with Mary Virginua. Her gentle demeanor and quick smile wete always present. I remember how she would tell stories chuckling as she shared them. She taught her students to put their fingers on their nose or chin to count. It helped to etch that number quantity for better recall She was realistic, calm, and fun! She loved her family and was quick to tell about them Thank you for sharing her with us at Central elementary School.

I have many wonderful memories of Mrs. Boykin, especially of when she came to visit a few times when I was out sick. She even told me if I counted all my chicken pox spots, I would be better the next day. Believe it or not, that's exactly what I did as soon as she left the house. Must have worked, I was back in school the following Monday.

My sincere condolences for the Boykin family. I have great memories of her. This was the woman who taught me to read, the pledge of allegiance and our prayer every morning. She was a wonderful influence in my life.

Mrs. Boyken was my second grade teacher in 1956. She had lots of challenges with no classroom as they were building extra rooms to handle the families moving into Meade County to work at Olin chemical plant, but she handled it all calmly.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Ms. Boyken's passing. For years, I often wondered where she have moved to. In my earlier Marine Corps days, I had come home and found her when Central Elementary was still around. My only time with her was in the Head Start program, 1973. For some reason, she made me use my middle name (Sam) and chose me to be the Groom for the play that we were all working toward. I still have those pictures as I was the only one that had to wear a suit. I learned a great deal at that age and trust me, first impressions are very lasting. Her impression was that she was always compassionate with all of us kids. We could all be called her favorite because of how well she taught and cared about each of us. For her family, please take much pride in knowing that she did things right. I am just a small percentage of proof that her teachings and guidance contributed to this great big world in large ways. God Bless you all and SEMPER FIDELIS!!!!
