Clifton R. “Tip” Hemingway 87, of Glenville, Kentucky died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home in Glenville. Clifton Ray Hemingway, born November 24, 1927 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Rufus S. and Pauline Taylor Hemingway, was married to the former Mary Margaret Nation on October 21, 1950, and was better known as “Tip” to both his family and friends. Tip retired from BellSouth of Owensboro, was an active member of Glenville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, and a family service assistant with Muster Funeral Homes. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a 66 year member of Monsarratt Lodge #379 F. & A.M., a past president of Owensboro Chapter of the Mended Hearts, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a member of the Green River Skippers. Tip also coached multiple Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams in the Snyder Community. In addition to his parents, Tip was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Hemingway, who died December 2, 2005.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Thomas R. and Sheila Hemingway of Glenville and David A. and Sara Hemingway of Owensboro; two daughters, Marian Sue Lahman of Glenville and Sara Mendell and husband, Richard of Plantation, Florida; eight grandchildren, Chris Easler, Shelley Crozier and husband, Josh, Chris Lahman, Matt Mendell, Clare Mendell, Will Hemingway, Mary Grace Hemingway, and Cecilia Hemingway; and a great granddaughter, Paige Hemingway Crozier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Glenville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Thomas and Dr. Joe Wiles officiating. Burial will be in the Glenville Baptist Cemetery in Daviess County. Friends may visit with Tip’s family from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from 8:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. Friday at Musters in Calhoun. The body will lie in state after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Masonic services for Tip will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Musters in Calhoun.
