Willis Ray May 91, of the Panther Community in Daviess County, Kentucky passed away Thursday, Thursday, April 23, 2026 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Willis Ray May was born July 31, 1934 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late William E. and Goldie Pearl Short May and was married to the former Paula Alisa Sumner on November 17, 1990.
Willis was a retired miner from Peabody Coal Mines and earlier worked as a mechanic at the former Holder Motors in Calhoun. He was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Owensboro and an U.S. Army Veteran. Willis enjoyed fishing, horse pulling, and working on cars.
In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Paula A. May, who died January 16, 2020 and by a great-grandson, Collin Miller.
Willis is survived by two sons, Timothy May and Johnny May both of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Jennifer Sumner, Melissa Miller (Dylan), Christopher May, Clayton May, and Taylor May; 5 great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Ken Short (Regina).
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the Chapel of Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Friends may visit with Willis’ family from 10:30 A.M. until 12:15 P.M. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.
