Sharon Whitaker Obituary

Sharon Kay Baggett Whitaker, of Calhoun, Kentucky formerly of Sacramento was born on August 5, 1948, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, this past Sunday at 3:00 PM. She was the youngest child of the late Basil and Madeline Baggett of Stringtown, Kentucky.

Sharon was born in the old country store her parents owned in Poplar Grove, Kentucky, where she enjoyed the company of her pet pig, Nelly, and occasionally their pet squirrels, Knothead and Worry Wart. Sharon was around twelve when the old store burned down, along with her new bicycle, so the family picked up the few things they had left and rebuilt their home and lives in Stringtown, Kentucky. If you blink, you may miss it.

Not long after the move, at around 15 years old, she met the love of her life, a 14-year-old boy from Bremen, Steve Whitaker. They were married on August 11, 1967. They had their first child, Brad Steven Whitaker, on November 8, 1969. As they both witnessed the birth of their first child, it would only be a few short weeks until Steve shipped out to Vietnam. By the Grace of God, Steve returned home from the war, and sometime later, on April 19, 1973, their daughter, Kristi Faith Whitaker, was born.

Sharon enjoyed many things in her life with her family, such as homemaking, hunting, fishing, gardening, landscaping, and let's not forget shopping. Sharon was also a licensed beautician. She loved spending time with her many grandkids and great-grandchildren. She loved life and, most of all, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a close second to Pappa on preaching to her family and loved 4-part harmony gospel hymns. As a side note, she was pretty dang good at rook and rummy.

Sharon was a lifelong member of Cypress Primitive Baptist Church and she was loved as she loved, and she will be missed, but we look to our faith to sustain us and see us through these challenging times.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Baggett and Glenn Allen Baggett.

Sharon is survived her husband of 58 years, Elder Steve Whitaker; a son, Brad Whitaker (Jennifer) of Owensboro; a daughter, Kristi Sutherlin (Charlie) of Sacramento; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Francis Smith of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews.
