Peggy Sue Crumbaker Obituary

Peggy Crumbaker  88, of Livermore, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at a daughter’s home in Livermore.  Peggy Sue Vertrees was born July 22, 1937 in Livermore, Kentucky to the late James Franklin ‘Coon’ and Dorothy Mae Bradshaw Vertrees.  She was lovingly known as ‘MeMe,’ not only by her family, but by many others who came to love her like family.  She was quick-witted, always caring for everyone.  Peggy Sue had a way of making people feel loved, welcomed, and cared for.

Peggy Sue was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, nurse, school bus driver, church member, artist, and friend to many.  She was a member of Livermore Methodist Church, where her faith and community were important parts of her life.

As a nurse, Peggy Sue cared for people during some of their hardest moments.  As a bus driver, she became part of the daily lives of many children and families.  In both roles, she gave kindness, patience, and steady care.  She was also an avid seamstress.  Peggy had a creative spirit and used her talents to make things with care, patience, and love.  Her creativity was another way she blessed those around her.

In addition to her parents, Peggy Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Vertrees and by a brother-in-law, Jerry Geary.

Peggy Sue is survived by five daughters, Terry Sue Burden (Chris) of Livermore, Cathy Dossett (Dr. Jon Mike) of San Antonio, Texas, Donielle Wetzel of Island, Joy Chambers of Calhoun, and Ja-Mae Chambers of Owensboro; a son, Ron Crumbaker (Martha) of Island; eighteen grandchildren, Nathan Stallings, Katie Becker (Evan), Drew Dossett (Alyssa), Garrett Dossett (Ellie), Tyson Presley, Aaron Presley (Natalie), Kelsea Wetzel, Tiffany Mattingly, Brandy Shocklee (Zachary), Jonathan Garcia, Zoe Howard (Kalen), Wesley Burden, Willow Burden, Summer Sutherlin, Seia Carter, Nate Crumbaker, Abby Lovell (Grant), and Cole Crumbaker; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anita Rose Geary of Wilmington, North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Jennifer Vertrees of Owensboro.

Peggy Sue’s legacy will live on through the family she loved, the people she served, and the many lives she touched.  Her life was defined by faith, family, service, humor, creativity, and love.
