Lisa Melloy Obituary

Lisa Conway Melloy of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones; under the care of her family and Hosparus Health Hospice Care. She was the daughter of Hugh Gerald and Pauline White Conway of Sturgis. Lisa earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University. She was a lifelong educator serving in the McLean County Public School system, retiring after 35 years of full-time service and then teaching for another 9 years in a part-time capacity. She loved working in Reading Recovery; she had a special interest in helping children that struggled with reading comprehension to improve their reading skills. Lisa’s career was extremely rewarding to her, and her students knew that she cared for them.  Her favorite quote to encourage everyone around her was, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”

Lisa was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel; she always had a passion for helping others. She was her children’s biggest fan during their middle and high school athletic careers. She never criticized their efforts or play, and always offered positive words, win or lose! Lisa cheered them on from the bleachers at every game and competition, no matter the distance. She was always keeping a scrapbook of their achievements and encouraging them to succeed. She was her husband’s biggest fan and supporter, attending his events and volunteering alongside him on community projects. She was truly the wind beneath their wings, inspiring them through her unwavering faith and support. She had a deep love for music, especially classical and Adele. She was a gifted piano player, learning as a young girl. An avid fan of athletics, Lisa loved football, basketball, baseball, and softball. She served as assistant softball coach at McLean County High School, mentoring young athletes and organizing team events. UK football was special to her; she rarely missed a game, hosting tailgates for friends and family, proudly wearing blue and white to support her favorite team. Through these actions, Lisa’s legacy of enthusiasm, encouragement, and compassion touched the lives of everyone around her.

Lisa was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Pauline Conway; her in-laws, Bob and Bernadine Melloy; her brother-in-law, Rev. T. Frank Smith, and his wife, Reda Smith; and another brother-in-law, Robert Scott Melloy. Her memory lives on through her devoted husband of fifty-six years, Earl Melloy; her children Mark, Matt, and Hayley Melloy; grandchildren Chloe, Caden, and Brody Melloy; and great-granddaughter Laylen Melloy. She is also remembered by her brother-in-law Sam (Linda) Melloy, sister-in-law Sandra Melloy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
