Joyce Sutton

     Joyce Sutton  86, of Island, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 at her home in Island.  Joyce Elizabeth Penrod was born November 26, 1938 in Island, Kentucky to the late Edwin Elwood ‘Ned’ and Naomi Lee Majors Penrod and was married to Curtis Dale Sutton on June 29, 1957.

     Joyce was a 1957 Graduate of Sacramento High School and received an associates degree from Western Kentucky University in early childhood development.  She served as a head start teacher for several years at both Livermore and Sacramento Schools.

     Joyce was a member of Island Baptist Church, where she also sang in the church choir and served as a Sunday school teacher.  She served as a board member of McLean County Board of Education for 20 years.

     In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a sister, Ura Price and by a cousin, Betty Ann Decker.

     Joyce is survived by her husband of 67 years, Curtis Sutton; two daughters, Sylvia Hayden (Pat) of Owensboro and Edwinia Thanas (Tony) of Anderson, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Carley Bean (Brad), Reisz Hayden (Ashley), Spencer Hayden (Allie Bivins), Stephen Webb, Elise Barrett (David), Joseph Thanas, and Alexandra Thanas (Rob Moore); 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ava Chymiy (Jim) of Memphis; and her cousin and best friend, Sue Markwell of Island.

     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 30, 2025 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel.  Friends may visit with Joyce’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Friday at Musters in Livermore.
