John Sandefur 72, of Daviess County, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Johnny Ray Sandefur was born January 12, 1953 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Ray L. and Maxine Durnell Sandefur, was married to the former Brenda Kay Hayes on November 5, 1971 and was better known as ‘John’ to both his family and friends.
John retired as a heavy equipment operator from T.V.A. and was a member of the former Curdsville Baptist Church. He enjoyed quail hunting, planting flowers, planting bushes on his farm, and watching the birds.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Sandefur; a daughter, Melanie Burns of Daviess County; three grandchildren, Leslie Burns, John Burns, and Katelyn Burns; and a great-granddaughter, Vivianne Burns.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Elba. There will be no public visitation. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements for John’s family.
The John Sandefur family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
John’s family would like to give a special thank you to both the staff at the Heartford House as well as all of the nurses and Dr. M at the Mitchell Cancer Center in Owensboro for all of their love and support, and please keep on laughing.
