Obituary

 

 

 

     John Cessna  64,  Johnnie Lee Cessna, known by many as John, passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  Born on October 3, 1958, in Greenville, Kentucky, he was the cherished son of Adrain and Marilyn Cessna of Island.

     John was a self-employed master electrician and took great pride in his work.  He had previously served as a dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1707 of Owensboro, where he was highly respected for his skill and work ethic.

     Beyond his professional life, John was an avid billiards player.  He was known as a pool shark, a title he earned after winning second place in a National Billiard tournaments during his college years.  He was a proud member of the American Pool Players Association, where he continued to demonstrate his love for the game and his competitive spirit.

     At the young age of 13, John began coaching girls' softball, showcasing his passion for sports and competition.  His dedication to the sport and to his team was evident in his coaching style, which was both nurturing and challenging, pushing his players to reach their full potential.

     John's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his profession, and his hobbies.  His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren.  His commitment to his work as an electrician was unmatched, and his passion for billiards and softball coaching brought joy and inspiration to many.  John was preceded in death by his daughter, Hollie Schindler.

     John was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife, Mary Cessna, and his son, Adrian Aaron Cessna of Nashville.  He was also a beloved figure in the lives of his stepchildren, David Austin Crockett of Houston, Texas, John David Crockett of Bayton, Texas, David Andrew Crockett (Heather) of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Juanita Mobley (Grady) of Lumberton, Texas.  John was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.  He is also survived by his parents, Adrain and Marilyn Cessna of Island; and his sisters, Vicki Murphy (David) of Owensboro and Carol Boarman (Bill) of Whitesville.

     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 11, 2023 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with Dr. Richard Sams officiating.  Burial will be in the Island Community Cemetery in McLean County.  Friends may visit with John’s family from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Friday at Musters in Livermore.

     John’s services will be streamed live on musterfuneralhomes.com at 1:00 P.M. Friday.
