James M. “Papaw” Farris 90, of Island, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at his home in Island. James Melvin Farris was born June 4, 1934 in Ohio County, Kentucky to Veachel and Ara Howard Farris and married to the former Linda Lou Ashby “Mamaw” Farris until her death on December 21, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Crystal Scott and several other family members including a brother Paul “Rooster: Bryant.
James was a hard working father who worked at several different occupations doing what he had to do to make ends meet. He attended Island Church of God of Prophecy and enjoyed hunting, fishing, front yard visits, and just living life.
James is survived by a son, James E. Farris of Island; two daughter, Ruth Ann Smith of Livermore, Norma J. Rowland of Island; 8 grandchildren, Sara, Adam, Matthew, Tyler, April, Crystral, Chris, Daniel; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Virginia Drake.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Friends may visit with Jame’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Musters in Livermore. Burial will be at Island Community Cemetery in Island.
