Helen Kraus Obituary

Helen Kraus  87, of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in Owensboro.  Mary Helen Meyer was born April 2, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky, she carried her Louisville heritage with great pride throughout her life, and was lovingly known as ‘Helen’ to both her family and friends.  Helen was the daughter of the late Herman John and Mary Luella Mattingly Meyer and was married to Robert Lee Kraus, Jr. on November 28, 1957.

The sense of where Helen came from remained an important part of who she was, and she often reflected the values of her upbringing in the way she lived each day.  Helen was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She retired after many years of service as a clerk with the McLean County Health Department, where she was respected for her dependability, work ethic, and friendly manner.

Helen found joy in the simple and meaningful blessings of everyday life.  She loved being outdoors, and her daily visit with the sun was something she considered essential.  Whether sitting outside, enjoying the warmth of the day, or simply taking in the beauty around her, she found peace in nature and in the rhythm of the world beyond her door.

She cherished time spent with her family and her many friends, and she especially loved being with her grandchildren.  Helen also valued the friendships she built over the years.  She enjoyed spending time with both family and friends, and her loyal, welcoming spirit made her a pleasure to know.

Helen was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun.  Her faith was reflected in the way she treated others, and it remained a source of peace and guidance throughout her years.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Robert Lee Kraus, Jr., who died March 14, 2006 and by her brother, Joseph Meyer.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Dr. Patti Allen (Dr. Walton) of Hawesville and Mandy Crowe (Kenny) of Livermore; a son, Chip Kraus (Davy Stone) of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Monica Allen, Dr. Brett Allen (Dr. Kara Hendrix), and Makenna Crowe; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth James Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun.  Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County.  Friends may visit with Helen’s family from 11:30 A.M. until 2:45 P.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.
