Frank W. 'Red' Conrad Obituary

Frank W. ‘Red’ Conrad  95, of Island, Kentucky passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at his home in Island.  Frank Willard Conrad was born January 10, 1928 in the Knobbs Community of McLean County, Kentucky to the late the late Frankie D. and Bertha Ward Conrad and was married to the former Reta Mae Davis July 24, 1948.  A man of great character and integrity, Red's life was rich with hard work, service, and dedication to his community and family.

Red was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.  His commitment to service continued in his professional life as a partner and operator of the former Island Standard Station.  He was also an active member of the Island Volunteer Fire Department, highlighting his dedication to the safety and well-being of his community.

Beyond his work and service, Red was deeply involved in local affairs.  He was a member of the Island Heritage Council, the Island Community Development, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.  His participation in these organizations demonstrated his unwavering commitment to preserving the rich history and fostering the growth of his beloved Island community.

In his 95 years, Red's life was a testament to the power of commitment — to family, work, community, and country.  His life's journey, from a child born in the Knobbs Community of McLean County to a respected pillar of the Island community, was marked by an unwavering dedication to the values he held dear.  He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes about his character.  In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Reta M. Davis, who died August 6, 2020.

Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Freels (Pat) and Robbin Baughn (Bill Conroy) both of Island; four grandchildren, Robbie Freels (Kateri), Kelly Key (Rob), Amy Rudd (Jason), and Katie Head (Matt); 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nettie Vagnini of Louisville, and Joan Czarnieckie (Zeke) of Danville.  Red leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and the Island community.
