Elizabeth Fulkerson 91, of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at her home. Elizabeth Ann Hayden was born December 30, 1932 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Eugene ‘Dutch’ and Nancy Nation Hayden, was married to William Morton ‘Billy’ Fulkerson on February 13, 1954, and was lovingly known as either ‘Sugie’ or ‘Liz’ by both her family and friends. Elizabeth's life was characterized by her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her community, and her joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Before her retirement, Elizabeth was a dedicated homemaker and later a valued employee at York International in Madisonville. Her work ethic was evident to all who knew her. Following her retirement from York, she continued to serve her community by working at the Farmers Market in Owensboro, where her bright spirit and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among customers and colleagues alike.
Elizabeth's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her love for life and the world around her. An avid gardener, she took pride in nurturing her plants and flowers, reveling in the beauty they brought to her home. Her culinary skills were second to none, and she delighted in cooking for her family and friends, often sharing her delicious creations with those she loved. Fishing was another of Elizabeth's passions, providing her with countless hours of tranquility and joy by the water.
Perhaps one of Elizabeth's most cherished roles was being 'Sugie' to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She embraced this title with all her heart, spoiling them with affection, wisdom, and the occasional golf cart ride, which became a treasured memory for all involved. Her presence at family events was a source of comfort and happiness, and she will be remembered for the stories she shared and the traditions she helped create.
A long-time member of Calhoun Baptist Church, Elizabeth's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and her commitment to her community, touching the lives of many with her generosity and compassion.
Elizabeth's spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. Her smile, her laughter, and her unwavering love are the gifts she leaves behind, a legacy that will be honored and cherished for generations to come.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy Morton Fulkerson, who died April 26, 2007; by her brother, Charles Hayden; and by her sister, Armelia ‘Rudy’ Feaster.
Elizabeth is survived by a son, Barry Fulkerson (Susan) of Longmont, Colorado; a daughter, Ann Howard (Dale) of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Leslie Turner (Matt), Lindsey Morris (Drake Renfrow), Alyssa Howard, Tanner Fulkerson, Chase Fulkerson, and Lucca Fulkerson; and four great grandchildren, Hayden Morris, Jack Turner, Lindley Turner, and Aiona Miller.
