Obituary

Earlene Austin  94, Earlene Stratton Austin, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, August 28, 2023.  Earlene Stratton was born September 17, 1928, in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Earl and Eva Christine McClellan Stratton and was married to Bobby Rex Austin February 3, 1945.

Throughout her life, Earlene was a dedicated homemaker, finding joy and purpose in creating a warm, welcoming environment for her loved ones.  She was a model wife and mother, embodying the virtues of a Proverbs 31 woman.  Her love for her family was unwavering, and her commitment to serving them was a testament to her selfless nature.  Earlene's home was always filled with the aroma of her delicious home-cooked meals and the sight of her beautiful quilts, which were crafted with love and skill.

Earlene's commitment to her faith was unwavering.  She was one of the founding members of the Who So Ever Will Mission Church, where she taught Sunday School for 35 years.  Her dedication to the church was a reflection of her deep love for Jesus and her desire to serve Him in every aspect of her life.  She found great joy in studying the Bible and sharing its teachings with others.

In addition to her roles as a homemaker and church member, Earlene was an avid cook and quilter.  She took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family and friends, and her quilts were not only beautiful but also a testament to her patience and attention to detail.

In addition to her parents, Earlene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bobby R. Austin, who died January 15, 2008 and by two brothers, Kenneth Stratton and Raymond Stratton.

She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Carrico and Sharon Gish (Vincent) both of Owensboro; her four grandchildren, Byron Gish (Jessica), Lori Willoughby (Eddie), David Aaron Carrico, and Matthew Carrico (Sandra); her five great-grandchildren, Mason Willoughby (Abby), Isabella Bingham (Sammy), Chloe-Ann Gish, Grace Girten, and Aaron Girten; her two great-great-grandsons, Jack Henry Bingham and Wyatt Richard Bingham; and a sister, Lucille Wilson of Calhoun.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 1, 2023 at Who So Ever Will Mission, 763 Kentucky 81 North, Calhoun with the Rev.
