Dorsey ‘Doss’ Poiles 89, of Taylorsville, Kentucky; formerly of Mascoutah, Illinois and Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. Dorsey Ellis Poiles was born April 27, 1936 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Elzie and Grace Virginia Farris Poiles, was married to the former Fujie Miyazato on December 27, 1979 and was better known as ‘Doss’ to both his family and friends.
Doss was a 1954 Graduate of Calhoun High School and in June of 1954 he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he retired in March of 1976. After retirement, Doss continued to work for the Air Force as a civilian employee, later retiring his civilian position as director of civilian personnel, Headquarter Communication Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois on September 1, 1992. Doss was a member of Richland Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, socializing with his friends, and watching University of Kentucky Basketball. He also loved watching FOX News and discussing his views on politics.
In addition to his parents, Doss was preceded in death by three sisters, Fay Nicely, Dianna Corum, and Betty Taylor; and by a brother, Larry Poiles.
Doss is survived by his wife of 45 years, Fujie Poiles; two daughters, Tammy West (Robbie) of Taylorsville and Michele Luzar of Shelbyville; three grandchildren, Shelby West (Skylar Vest), Brandon West (Jackie Crump), and Ryan West; a great-granddaughter, Willow Vest; and a brother, Marshall Poiles of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, October 24, 2025 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in the Richland Baptist Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415. Friends may visit with Doss’ family from 12:00 P.M. (noon) until 3:00 P.M. Friday at Musters in Calhoun.
