Doris Curry Turner Obituary

Doris Curry Turner  92, of Livermore, Kentucky walked through the gates of Heaven on Thursday, October 9, 2025.  Doris Kathleen Curry was born May 10, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Raymond Wood and Janetta Kirkpatrick Curry.

Doris moved to Kentucky at the age of 9.  This was the beginning of her life as a farm girl.  She met the love of her life, Myron Lee ‘Jack’ Turner, who lived just across the creek.  On September 20, 1951, they were married in Springfield, Tennessee and celebrated with a hamburger.  Soon they purchased and dedicated their lives to the family farm.

Doris was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church, where she served with grace, strength, and compassion.  She served as a Sunday school teacher, MYF leader, and Bible school teacher.  She loved keeping the church grounds weed free.  Doris was a member of Livermore Women’s Club for 55 years and a honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma – Rho Chapter.

For 17 years she worked at General Electric in Owensboro before returning to college to pursue the career of her dreams to become a teacher of mathematics.  Her passion of teaching and learning evolved for 33 years.  Doris’ love of math lasted a lifetime.

Doris’ greatest accomplishment was her family; her children, Julie and Mark, her four grandchildren, and her five great-grandchildren.  Hard work, honesty, and a love for her family and Jesus were ingrained by Doris.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Myron ‘Jack’ Turner, who died June 14, 2010; a brother, William ‘Bill’ Curry; a sister-in-law, Betty Curry; a sister, Juanita Hoover; and a brother-in-law, D.W. Hoover.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Julie Turner King (Mark) of Livermore; a son, Mark Lindley Turner (June) of Livermore; and four grandchildren, Matthew Landon Turner (Leslie), Emma King Knight (Josh), Lars Turner King (Amanda), and Hannah Elizabeth Turner; and five great-grandchildren, Jack Everett Turner, Lindley Marie Turner, Preston Wayne King, Evelyn Ruth Knight, and Mary Elizabeth King.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 17, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Community Church.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McLean County.  Friends may visit with Doris’ family from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
