Sue Evelyn Abney Straney 88, of Calhoun, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Sue Evelyn Abney was born October 1, 1928 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Ellis and Vena Lee Evans Abney. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Sue and her husband Steve owned and operated Straney’s Grocery, located between Calhoun and Beech Grove, Kentucky from 1955-1991.
Sue was a great cook, loved to read, and watch her television. She took tremendous pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She particularly liked to show everyone pictures of her little ones.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Straney on November 22, 1982; a brother, Glen Abney in 1986; sister, Ethelyn Cook in 2015; and nephews, Tony Glen Abney in 2000 and Fred Allen Cook in 2015.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Glenn Iglehart of Utica; two grandchildren, Branden Leigh Jennings and husband, Robby of Trussville, AL and Chadd Murray Iglehart and wife, Magan of Arcadia, Florida; seven great grandchildren, Ava Claire Medley, Emma Grace Jennings, Maggie Leigh Jennings, Laynee Star West, Camden Murray Iglehart, Clayton Ryder Iglehart, and two week old Evelyn Marie Iglehart; a sister, Helen Hoover and husband, Bill of Owensboro; a brother, Lynn Abney and wife, Pat of Chandler, Indiana; a nephew, Chris Abney and wife, Lisa of Newburgh, Indiana; three nieces, Linda Morris and husband, Billy of Calhoun, Kay Pate and husband, Walter of Hartford, and Cindy Abney of Chandler, Indiana; several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Charles Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Sue’s family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Musters in Calhoun.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sue’s caregiver, Mindy Phillip for her untiring devotion. Heartfelt thanks to Riverside Manor and their caring staff. Sue’s satisfaction there was because of their attentiveness, friendliness, and their desire to serve.
