Ray Gieseke

Ray Gieseke  92, of Owensboro, Kentucky, formerly of Calhoun passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.  Ellis Ray Gieseke was born December 6, 1924 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Clarence Julius and Daisy Pearl Shemwell Gieseke and was married to the former Virginia Lee King on October 6, 1945.  He retired from Green Coal Company after 20 years of service and was a member of No One Left Behind Tabernacle in Calhoun.  Ray enjoyed hunting, attending church, and living for God.  He had a quick wit, loved sharing stories, and laughing.  In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by six brothers, George, Clarence, Jr., Bill, Leck, Earl, and Hubert Gieseke and by a sister, Mary Voss.

          Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Virginia Gieseke; two daughters and their husbands, Diana and Terry Howard and Joy and Wayne Blincoe both of Owensboro; a granddaughter, Jennifer Bugg and husband, Ashley of Henderson; a great granddaughter, Maddie Bugg; and a sister, Daisy Lou Soper of Florida.

          Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Harry Wilson officiating.  Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County.  Friends may visit with Ray’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Monday at Musters in Calhoun.

          The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ray’s caregivers, Tammy Lane, Martha Ralph, and Janet McCarty for the wonderful care you gave him.

          The Ray Gieseke family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Sunshine Ladies of Beulah General Baptist Church; C/O Sandy Baird; P.O. Box 130; Calhoun, Kentucky  42327, for the years of kindness to the family.  Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
