Kenneth Durwood Miller 83, originally from Calhoun was called to heaven on Friday, May 26, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Kenneth was born July 8, 1933 on the Knob in the Semiway community of McLean County to the late Marvin and Mildred "Dolly" Davis Miller and was later married for 45 years to the late Sandra Gayle Erwin Miller on December 5, 1959. He was a 1951 graduate of Sacramento High School. Kenneth served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 as a Private First Class, Company C, 35th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division in Fort Hood Texas. He was employed by Murphy Miller/ Hon Manufacturing as a finish sander for over 33 years and retired in 1996. Kenneth raised cattle, tobacco and was known for his large plentiful garden he shared with family, friends and strangers. He was a volunteer helping his late wife Sandra with the Special Olympics and a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Leslie and Dwane Smeathers of Lewisport and Amy and Derek VanMeter of Lexington; five grandchildren, Melissa Hicks and husband, Aaron, Allison Brasher, Seth Brasher and wife, Jessica, Connor VanMeter, and Karsten VanMeter; two step grandchildren, Cliff Smeathers and Amber Lowery; 15 great grandchildren, Madison Brasher-Evans, Taylor Kyle, Jackson Brasher, Aidan Wachter, A.J Hicks, Charley Hicks, Scarlett Hicks, Riley Brown, Paislee Marksberry, Beau Brasher, Justice Lowery, Tyson Lowery, Isaac Lowery, Zoe' Swanagan, and Bronx Swanagan; three brothers, Bill Miller and wife Jean of Livermore, Duard Miller and wife Daris of Island, and Rufus Miller and wife, Marilyn of Owensboro; two sisters, Darlene Bowman of Sacramento and Joyce Garrett and husband, Donald of Dawson Springs; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Entombment will be in Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Miller family from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday and from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Sandra G. Miller and Kenneth D. Miller Scholarship Fund, WKU c/o College Heights Foundation, 1906 College Heights Blvd. 41016, Bowling Green, KY 42101. This scholarship benefits the special education teachers program at WKU.
