Danny "Eli" Ellis

Danny “Eli” Ellis 61, of Calhoun, Kentucky, formerly of Owensboro died Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home in Calhoun.  Daniel Lynn Ellis was born April 17, 1956 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Norman B. and Ruth Lloyd Ellis, was named “Mr. Owensboro” and a 1974 graduate of Owensboro High School, was married to the former Carrie Ann Wilson December 7, 1991. He retired as a painter in the maintenance department at Glenmore Distilleries in Owensboro after 37 years of service. Danny spent his life coaching baseball and football while being a mentor to youth in sports and life in general.  He also enjoyed excessively caring for his yard, cruising in his Jeep with his K-9 sidekick Marley, and his yearly excursions to Florida.  In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his mentor and father-in-law, J.R. Wilson.

          Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carrie Ellis; two daughters, Holly Ellis Lee and husband, Jeremy of Sacramento; Candice Tanner of Owensboro; son, Eli Ellis of Calhoun;  five grandchildren: Cruz, Jax, Nash, Eva Claire, and Chaney; brother, David Ellis and his son Taylor of Hawaii; and mother-in-law, Lucille Wilson of Calhoun.

          Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the McLean County High School Football Field with Rev. John Butler officiating.  Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County.  Friends may visit with Danny’s family from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday and from 8:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.

          The Danny L. Ellis family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the McLean County Football Boosters-Capital Account (for future multi-sports complex) P. O. Box 204; Calhoun, KY 42327.  Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
