Randy Powers Obituary

Randy Powers  70, of Island, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home in Island.  Randall Gene Powers was born December 7, 1953 in Louellen, Kentucky to the late Cledo Wilburn and Rubie Edith Paul Powers, was married to the former Cecilia Jane Hamilton on May 27, 1995 and was fondly known as Randy to his friends and loved ones.  Randy was a man of deep rooted faith, a dedicated worker, and a passionate musician who brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Randy's early life in Louellen laid a strong foundation for his unwavering work ethic and community spirit.  His career as a laser operator at General Electric in Madisonville was marked by diligence and precision, earning him the respect of his colleagues.  Earlier Randy served on the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department.  He also served the City of Island and took pride in his role as an Island City Commissioner.  His commitment to public service extended to his involvement with the McLean County Zoning Board, where he contributed significantly to the development and betterment of his community.

Beyond his professional and civic duties, Randy's heart truly beat in rhythm with the music he so loved.  His talent as a musician was evident through his skillful playing of several instruments, his charismatic DJ performances, and his soulful singing.  As the owner of Starlite Karaoke & DJ Services, he was the life of many parties and gatherings, creating memorable moments for those who shared in his musical journey.  Randy's love for music was only paralleled by his steadfast faith.  Embracing the Pentecostal faith at an early age, he lived his life with a strong sense of spirituality that guided his actions and brought comfort to those around him.

Randy's presence was a light in the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by the community that he so lovingly served. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements and his service to others, but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all.  His melodies will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to experience his musical gifts.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Powers, Gary Powers and George Powers; and by a sister, Mary Campbell.

Randy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cecilia Powers; two sons, Jeff Powers (Autumn) of South Bend, Indiana and Derrick Thaxton (Christina) of Madisonville; two daughters, Amie Waltrip (Luke) of Central City and Crystal Penrod (Bill) of Utica; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia Robbins of Baxter, Kentucky, June Carr (Marty) of Lake Worth, Florida and Janie Powers of Utica; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
