Gibson Hansford “Gip” Riggs 81, of Calhoun, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Gibson Hansford Riggs was born September 29, 1937 in McLean County to the late Hugh Haynes and Mae Taylor Riggs, was married to the former Lillie Mae Durbin July 12, 1957 and was known as “Gip” to both his family and friends. Gip retired from Southwire in Hawesville. He enjoyed UK Basketball, making woodcrafts and spending every Sunday with his family. Gip was a member of the former Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he proudly served as an elder, clerk and Sunday school superintendent. He was involved in the Cumberland Presbytery and served as moderator. Gip was Moderator of Synod and served on the Committee of Ministry and Credentials for 16 years, was on the Presbytery Council and was a Delegate of the General Assembly. He loved his church family very much. The Rev. Eugene Leslie was a great inspiration and friend to Gip. In addition to his parents, Gip was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Riggs and Clayton Riggs and by three sisters, Nadine Bennett, Sally Wacker and Alice Harness.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lillie Riggs; a son, Stephen Riggs (Debra) of Calhoun; a daughter, Rhonda Pendley (Bradley) of Utica; two grandsons, Michael Riggs and Brandon Pendley; two granddaughters, Ashley Howard (Josh) and Sarah Riggs; three great grandchildren, Lily, Myla and Noah Howard; a sister, Lorene Penrod of Calhoun; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Marc Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Gip’s family from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Musters in Calhoun.
