Otis L. Griffin, Jr.

December 8, 1941 ~ April 7, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Otis L. Griffin, Jr., 75, of Beech Grove, Kentucky peacefully passed on Friday, April 7, 2017 surrounded by his family after a long illness.  Otis L. Griffin, Jr. was born December 8, 1941 in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Otis L. Griffin, Sr. and Jessie Lee Hoover Griffin, and was married to the former Donna Carol Anderson on August 16, 1986.  Otis was a second generation farmer, and member of Beech Grove Christian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, board chair, and trustee.  He earned his B.S. in Animal Science and minor in Biology in 1964 from the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity.  He was an active member of the UK Agriculture Alumni Association, where he held numerous leadership positions, including two years as president.  He was a member and past master of the Vienna Lodge #423 F. & A.M.. Otis served for 20 years on the regional board of the Selective Service Commission, was a past member of the Calhoun Jaycees, and served on the board of the Green River Comprehensive Care.

Otis said that with Family, Faith, and Education nothing was impossible.  He took pride serving the people of McLean County on the Board of Education for 42 years, 34 of those as Chairman of the Board and during his tenure never missed a regular meeting.  His many years of service made him the third longest serving school board member in Kentucky.  When faced with a tough decision, he always sided with what would be in the best interest of the students of McLean County.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Donna Anderson Griffin; four children: Lance and his wife Emily of Louisville, Jennifer and her husband Tim Sanders of Austin, TX, Caitlin Griffin of Beech Grove, and Sage Griffin of Beech Grove, and his fiancée Kristen Bell of Owensboro; five grandchildren: Matthew Griffin, Claire Griffin, Grant Griffin, Griffin Sanders, and Ian Sanders; and a brother Larry Griffin of Tell City, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Jim Midkiff officiating.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Elba.  Friends may visit with Otis’s family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
