Larry B. Whitaker  64, of Calhoun, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at his home in Calhoun.  Larry Bryant Whitaker was born October 16, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Hugh Bryant and Lilly Loretta Simmons Whitaker.  He was a 1970 graduate of Calhoun High School, attended both Kentucky Wesleyan College and Eastern Kentucky University, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971, and later graduated from Murray State University.  Larry served four terms as Judge Executive for McLean County Fiscal Court and was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church.

            Larry served 23 years in public administration.  He was regional transportation planner for GRADD; Assistant Director of Community Development for the City of Kissimmee, Osceola, Florida; President Kentucky Association of Counties; Kentucky County Judge/Executive's Legislative Policy Committee to General Assembly for numerous years; Kentucky Coal County Coalition Board of Directors; West Kentucky Corporation Board of Directors; National Association of Counties; National Association of Counties ( NACO), NACO Geographic Information Systems subcommittee; Chairman Green River Area Development District; Chairman Audubon Area Community Service Agency; Chairman Green River District Board of Health; Chairman of McLean Board of Health.

            He had various appointments, such as Governors’ appointment to Kentucky GIS advisory Committee; Kentucky Progress Commission, Smart Growth Task Force and chairman of the Planning Steering Committee; Kentucky Infrastructure Authority Board; Kentucky Senate task force on City/County revenue sharing and Local taxation; Connect Kentucky Steering Committee; Special appointed to the US Depart of Interior; Federal Geographic Data Committee’s Work group for Communication, Education and Policy; special appointment to the National Spatial Data Information reorganization committee; U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Copperbelly Water Snake Consortium; and legislative delegate for the Kentucky Association of Counties to the policy conference.

            Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Andrea and Josh Searcy of Calhoun and Bridget and Jacob Reid of Owensboro; six grandchildren, James Whitaker “Whit” Searcy, Leah J. Searcy, Peyton E. Reid, Charlie J. Reid, Ryleigh M. Reid, and Hayden McLean Reid; a brother and his wife, Luie and Debbie Whitaker of Calhoun; two sisters and their husbands, Lois and Rod Kuegel of Owensboro and Lori and Ranny Joe Troutman of Calhoun; seven nieces and nephews, Shelby Decker, Kristie Bowlds, Luke Kuegel, Molly Eric, Clay Kuegel, Will Troutman, and Jack Troutman.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Calhoun Baptist Church with the Revs. Will Troutman, Keith Sage and Richard Sams officiating.  Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415.  Friends may visit with Larry’s family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.
