Jane Atherton Herndon

Jane Atherton Herndon  90, of Livermore, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Churchton, Maryland.  Thelma Jane Atherton was born November 13, 1925 in Livermore, Kentucky to the late Walter Brengle and Anibel Atherton Atherton.  Following graduation from Livermore High School, Jane moved to Washington D.C. for two years where she worked at the Library of Congress in the copyright office and at the British Embassy.  In her free time in DC, she and her cousin chased after movie stars seeking autographs.  She married Shirley Burrell Herndon on October 19, 1946 in Okolona, Kentucky. They had three children, David, Marsha and Tom.  While her children were in school, Jane worked as secretary at Livermore School, where she was also the cheerleader sponsor, a band booster and basketball fan. She worked for Dr. John Lovett in Owensboro for over 20 years and later served as a volunteer at the former Owensboro Daviess County Hospital.  Jane was a member and served as organist of Livermore Baptist Church for 40 years.  She was an avid supporter of the Livermore High School Yellow Jackets and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.  In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by her husband, Burrell Herndon and a son, David Burrell Herndon.

          She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Purcell (Bill) of Churchton, Maryland; her son, Tom Herndon (Cindy Williams) of Buck Creek, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Laura Herndon (Zach Neill) and Sarah Herndon both of Asheville, North Carolina, and Ryan Purcell (Riley Steiner) of Atlanta; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Herndon Wilson (Jimmy) of Atlanta, Georgia; her brother Walter Atherton (Pat) of Owensboro; and her nieces and nephews. 

          Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore.  Friends may visit with Jane’s family from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday at Musters in Livermore.  A reception will immediately follow the burial at the Livermore Baptist Church.
