George W. “Bill” Carpenter  73, of Owensboro, Kentucky died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Owensboro.  George William Carpenter was born December 21, 1941 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late William Clarence and Helen Augusta Whitaker Carpenter and was married to the former Joyce Chitwood on August 11, 1967.  Bill retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service.  His military service included Korea, 2 tours of Vietnam, and being stationed in Germany.  Bill received several medals including the bronze service stars and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and was also sent to Guyana, South America to bring back the remains from the Jonestown Killings.  He later retired after 20 years of service as the maintenance supervisor at Bon Harbor Nursing Home in Owensboro.  Bill enjoyed the residents there and continued to visit them after his retirement.  He was a member of the Baptist faith, loved his family, and enjoyed organizing family get-togethers.  Bill built bird houses as a hobby, enjoyed gardening and always enjoyed making people smile.  In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Joyce Chitwood Carpenter, who died July 16, 2014.

          Survivors include three sons, Chris Carpenter, Rodney Carpenter both of Owensboro, and Mike Carpenter of Jesup, Georgia; two daughters, Marie Carpenter of Owensboro and Kim Wheeler of Jesup; seven grandchildren, Nikki Rouse of Denver, Ashley Carpenter, Grant Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter all of Owensboro, Serenity Carpenter, Brittany “Cricket” Carpenter, and Heather Vidal all of Jesup; 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Roger “Cowboy” Carpenter of Livermore; three sisters, Barbara Parsley of Lewisport, Dottie Woolen of Rockport, and Kay Wink of Philpot; several nieces and nephews.

          Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel with the Rev. E.W. Greenwalt officiating and Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415.  Friends may visit with Bill’s family from 12:00 P.M. (noon) until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Musters in Livermore.
