Welcome to the memorial page for

Frances Ernestine (Plain) Garst

July 16, 1906 ~ December 28, 2017 (age 111) 111 Years Old

Frances Ernestine  Plain Garst, 111, of Riverside Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center in Calhoun, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017.  Ernestine was born July 16, 1906 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Onis Washington and Annie Woodburn Plain.

Ernestine was the oldest member of Station Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher for many years.  “Aunt Teen”, as she was affectionately called by family, was a truly remarkable lady.  Ernestine was the oldest living person in Kentucky and listed among “Oldest Living Supercentenarians” in Wikipedia. She lived through 20 United States presidents, the horse and buggy mode of travel and experienced Henry Ford’s first automobile.

Though she lived for a time in Detroit in the 1920’s, Aunt Teen was happiest at the family farm in Sacramento.  Aunt Teen attributed her long life to her love of God and Kentucky Basketball.  She loved family, neighbors, children, flowers, birds, pets, wildlife and the beauty of the farm.

In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Gertie Franklin Garst, brother, Truman Plain and sisters Minnie Catherine Plain and Retha Plain Bibb.

Survivors include Nephews T. L. Plain of Henderson, KY and Earl Dewey Bibb of Madisonville, KY; Grand Nephews Thomas Plain (Ellen) of Milford, MA, Robert Plain (Cynthia) of Roanoke, VA, Patrick Plain (Michael Plain Hong) of Forest Hills, NY; Grand Niece Ginger Fraser (Kevin) of Lexington, KY; Great Grand Nephews and Nieces (Dr. Jake Plain (Sarah) of Ashburn, VA, Jacqueline Plain Broyer (George) of Midlothian, VA, Brian Plain (Karen) of Marlborough, MA, Alison Caldwell (Allen) of State College, PA, Anne-Marie Carr (Michael) of Framingham, MA, Leanne Kreutz (Dr. Brian Kreutz) of Lexington, KY, Leslie Wiggins of Lexington, KY; Great Great Grand Nephews and Nieces Annabelle Plain of Marlborough, MA, Cadence Caldwell of State College, PA, Gianna Kreutz of Lexington, KY, Luke and Emma Wiggins of Lexington, KY.
