Dorothy 'Dot' Hudson

Dorothy “Dot” Hudson  89, of Calhoun, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 surrounded by her family at Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center in Calhoun.  Dorothy Virginia Gaw was born January 12, 1928 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late James William and Mary Josephine Thompson Gaw, was married to Samuel Eugene Hudson November 19, 1948 and was better known as “Mama Dot” to her friends and family.  Dot graduated from St. Francis Academy and worked at Kresge’s and Farmers & Merchants Bank for over twenty years as both a teller and vice-president.  She was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and was a long-time member of the Bethany Sunday School Class.

          Dot enjoyed many hobbies including golf, bowling, square dancing, collecting coins, playing various games, playing cards, and shopping especially at Hallmark.  She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and enjoyed going to movies.  Last and certainly not least, Dot was an avid George Strait fan.  In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Gene Hudson on October 12, 1990; by two grandchildren, Chad and Wendy Hudson; and by five brothers, Bill, George, J. Richard, Gerald, and Charlie Gaw. 

          Survivors include her daughter, Patsy Bryant (Don) of Owensboro; two sons, Sammy Hudson (Teresa) of Owensboro and Ricky Hudson (Dora) of Calhoun; seven grandchildren, Jason Bryant (Lauren), Alex Bryant (Katie), Haley Hudson, Marta Phelps (Digger), Whitney Cecil, Mallory Aud (Eric), and Chara Beth Hendricks (John); sixteen great grandchildren, Nolan and Drew Bryant, Amelia and Brooks Bryant, Hudson and Hallie Phelps, Addy, Ansley, Wyatt, Whitman, and Ava Cecil, Noah, Marci, and Lucy Aud, and ReesiAnna and Jaxx Hendricks; a sister, Margaret Cox (Tony) of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews.

          Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Bob Farmer and Dr. Richard Sams officiating.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore.  Friends may visit with Dot’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Musters in Calhoun.

          The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center.  The staff’s diligence, desire to serve, and genuine kindness was evident during Mama Dot’s time at Riverside.  The Dot Hudson family is truly grateful for her wonderful care.
