Charles L. Dame

Charles L. Dame  74, of Slaughters, Kentucky, formerly of Rumsey went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.  Charles Leonard Dame was born May 15, 1942 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late Elbert Linel and Georgie Louise Drury Dame and was married to the former Thelma Jean Thomasson November 8, 1963.  Charles was a prominent farmer in McLean and Hopkins Counties.  He inherited farm rights from his wonderful grandfather, George “Lynn” Dame, uncle, Marcus Ellis Dame, and his father, Elbert Linel Dame to eventually become Dame Farms, as it is now known.  Charles’ sons, Charles Kevin Dame and Shawn Curtis Dame are the 4th generation Green River bottom farmers and their children, Kirby Gene Dame, Wesley Owen Dame, and the Hopkins County Extension Agent, Curtis Lynn Dame, who was better known as “Wally” to Charles will be the 5th generation to continue the tradition, with upcoming help supplied by Clay Charles Woodruff Dame, Brady William Dame, and Matthew Murphy, as sidekicks.  Charles grew up in Shutt’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where all the Dame family attended.  He was a hunter, loved rabbit hunting, working with his beagles, riding horses, Rodeos, wrestling, and was a Proud Republican.

          Survivors include his best friend of 61 years and his wife of 53 years, Jean Thomasson Dame; two sons, Charles Kevin Dame and wife, Jo Ann Woodruff Dame of Rumsey and Shawn Curtis Dame and wife, Tracey Godsey Dame of Slaughters; nine grandchildren, Curtis Lynn Dame and wife, Amanda Jo Hamilton Dame, Kirby Gene Dame and wife, Katie Riggs Dame, Wesley Owen Dame and his friend, Kallie Daugherty, Emma Christine Dame, our upcoming star in the music business, Clay Charles Woodruff Dame and his friend, Kendall Bishop, Brady William Dame, Michaela Murphy, Katie Murphy, and Matthew Murphy; a special young man, Cory Lindsey of Ashbyburg; and several cousins.

          Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Poplar Grove Cemetery in McLean County with the Rev. Will Troutman officiating.  Friends may visit with Charles’ family from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Musters in Calhoun.

          The Charles L. Dame family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to McLean County High School FFA; 1859 Kentucky 136 East; Rumsey, Kentucky  42371.  Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
