Alvin Bickett

Alvin Bickett  89, of Rumsey died Friday, March 20, 2015 at his home.  Joseph Alvin Bickett was born February 8, 1926 in Ohio County to the late Henry Louis and Ina Belle Crowe Bickett and was married to the former Elizabeth Joyce Rumage on June 9, 1951.  A life-time farmer who always said farming never seemed like a job to him, Alvin was a devoted husband to Betty Bickett for 63 years.  He loved his family, his work and his church. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the military police while stationed in Japan.  Alvin was an avid UK basketball fan, a NASCAR enthusiast, and in his earlier years enjoyed both hunting and fishing.  In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by a son, Keith Bickett; by a sister, Geraldine Owdziej; and by a brother, Dennis Bickett.

          Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Bickett; his children, Joe Bickett (Jane) of Owensboro, Mary Beth Andrews of Frankfort, Steve Bickett (Carol) of Slaughters, Vickie Groce (Steve) of Bowling Green, Lisa Young (Steve) of Calhoun, Paula McGuire (Jeff) of Booneville, Indiana, Gary Bickett (Karen) of Owensboro, and Amy LaBron of Bowling Green; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; three brothers, Edmund Bickett (Lutzie) of Shawnee Town, Illinois, James C. Bickett (Margaret) of Owensboro, and Kenneth Bickett of Pembroke; and four sisters, Lucille O’Neill of Denham Springs, Lousiana, Sister Luisa Bickett of Maple Mount, Jeannie Calhoun (Sherrell) of Madisonville, and Carol Bell (Max) of Manchester, Missouri.

          Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun.  Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5415.  Friends may visit with Alvin’s family from 1:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Monday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel.  Prayer services for Alvin will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Musters in Calhoun.

          The Alvin Bickett family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Building Fund; 190 Kentucky 136 West; Calhoun, Kentucky  42327.  Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
